Think you're too old to start writing? You’re wrong.

If you’ve been thinking about a great book idea for years, but think that time has passed you by, I have a big surprise for you. The time may never be better than right now.

Have you ever heard the phrase “Drawing from the realm of your own experience”? If you are an older person, you probably have a rich and varied world of experience to draw from. It could be military service, marriage, family, your career, close friends, hobbies, relationships, things you should have done but didn’t, things you did but shouldn’t have done, mistakes you’ve made, failures, successes, characters you’ve met along the way, people you’ll never forget, and people you want to forget…they are all part of life. And isn’t life what a book is all about?

One of the world’s most prolific and successful authors, even to this day, James Patterson, is 72 as I write this. Clive Cussler is 88. And Mary Higgins Clark is 91. She just released her latest book. So, no matter how old you are, you could have a great future ahead of you. An exciting, fun future. And you can accomplish something you’ve wanted to do for years.

Afraid you can’t handle new technology, can’t type, don’t even own a computer? No worries. Get out that outdated pencil and a pad of paper and start writing your novel the old fashioned way. You’d be flabbergasted to know how many very successful authors still prefer this method of writing.

Afraid your friends and family will laugh at you when you tell them you’re writing a book? Don’t tell them…until you have your manuscript totally finished and you’re ready to edit. Then, instead of telling them that you’re going to write a book (like everybody says), you can tell them that you wrote a book. Imagine the look on their faces when you’ve actually done what a lot of people say they’re going to do…but never do.

There are plenty of sources that you can find to type, edit, design a book cover and prepare your book for self-publishing.

Don’t procrastinate. Don’t make any more excuses. Don’t be afraid of that scary blank page staring up at you. Just…start. You can always throw your first few pages away after you have something down. It’s getting something down that is the hard part. After that…it flows like warm butter and maple syrup on hot pancakes!

Let me know how your new adventure is going. Your future awaits. No matter how old you are!
